Abstract
The main problem anticipated in conservation of the remains in the open site of Ancient Olynthos was the aesthetic harmonization of the new mortars with old ones and their resistance to weathering. Therefore an experimental work was done to find the suitable materials and their proportions. Local raw earth and gravel from the river near the site were very successfully used. Strength tests were carried out for over 150 specimens. Some of them were placed at the open site of over two years in order to be seen their volume stability. In addition remarks regarding the intervention work on the site as well as the behaviour of materials used one year after the execution of restoration works are discussed. Introduction Anci
