Abstract
Investigation of material properties of Kii^iik Ayasofya Mosque-Sts Sergius and Bacchus of Istanbul F. Akoz, N. Yiizer Yildiz Technical University, Faculty of Civil Engineering, 80750 Istanbul, Turkiye Abstract Kiifiik Ayasofya Mosque, Sts Sergius and Bacchus, is one of the oldest surviving monuments possessing its original structure in Istanbul. It was built in 527 AD during the reign of Justinian and served as a Christian sanctuary for nearly a thousand years. In the investigation of the physical and mechanical properties of materials some non-destructive tests, as rebound tests and sonic tests, were applied and the relative humidity of the surfaces were measured on the exterior walls in winter and summer conditions. Some cores were taken out by drilling from the walls.
