Abstract
Prediction models to determine the acoustic effect of barriers along railway lines H.J.A. van Leeuwen DGMR Consulting Engineers, Eisenhowerlaan 112, 2517 KM The Hague, The Netherlands SUMMARY A survey of the noise prediction models for the calculation and the prognoses of the acoustical effects of noise barriers along a railway line is made. Secondly the prediction models are compared to each other and compared to some measurements. The calculation methods show differences in the acoustical and geometrical characterisation of the noise source or noise sources. A wide range of source locations is specified in the various prediction models. Also the calculation of the attenuation of a barrier and the calculation of the effect of the groundabsorption gives a variety of mathematical formulas. The insertion loss of an absorptive barrier of 2 m high along a two track railway varies between approxi- mately 7 and 12 dB(A). INTRODUCTION A summary of the
