Abstract

The input impedance of acoustic horns is often calculated in an approx- imate manner using solely the lowest order mode of an infinite uniform waveguide. Though all the higher order modes may be evanescent at the throat of the horn, or indeed throughout the horn, the high degree of cou- pling between modes induced by the flare can have an important effect on the input impedance of the lowest order mode. In this work we examine a method for finding the input impedance to a higher degree of accuracy, taking the higher order modes into account. The models discussed are a continuous model obtained by taking the discrete model to the limit, and a continuous model derived directly from the wave equation. In this paper we address two main problems mentioned
