Abstract
Problems raised by the computation of tidal flows in coastal areas are reviewed. The main factors which are occasionally overlooked are the tide- generating force and the mean sea level. The effect of some numerical parameters, including parameter estimation of bottom friction are also discussed. 1 Introduction Coastal areas and especially estuaries are places where industrial development and the protection of environment must be combined. Most numerical studies now performed at the "Laboratoire National d'Hydraulique" (L.N.H.), either for "Electricite de France" or other organisations, require the computation of flows in coastal areas. Applications which consider the i
