Abstract
Results from a semi operational storm surge system using a stationary Kalman filter for the assimilation of observed tide gauge data is presented. The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) is responsible for the storm surge warning for the Danish domestic waters. The system presented con- sists of a meteorological model (HIRLAM - High Resolution Limited Area Model) providing surface stress and surface pressure to a depth integrated hydrodynamical model. In addition, tide gauge data from a number of sta- tions are available real time for assimilation. The system is run twice daily when new forecasts from HIRLAM are available, analyzed at OZ and 12Z, providing 36 hours forecast. In addition to this the system can be run when ever new tide
