Computer-based methods are a key technology for ship design and construction which are undergoing rapid change and development. The changes are enabled by the rapid advances in computer capabilities available at lower costs, which have made it possible for every sector of the ship design and construction industry to participate in the use of computer-based methods for design and/or construction. This paper presents an assessment of the state-of-art in computer based ship design technology, and discusses in particular the trend toward integration wit
