Abstract
A numerical and experimental study on laminar forced convection in a two- dimensional square duct with a surface-mounted block has been performed. The whole block is kept at a constant temperature and the other walls of the channel are adiabatic. Results are obtained for Reynolds numbers ranging from 300 to 2600, the aspect ratios 0.125 to 0.5, and the width to height ratios of the block 0.5 to 4. Measurements by laser Doppler velocimetry and naphthalene sublimation technique are also used to verify the calculated solutions. The effects of different Reynolds numbers and block ratios on local and average heat transfer coefficients as well as the lengths of various recirculation regions are discussed in detail. Moreover, the varia
