Abstract
Experimental analysis of Marangoni-convection using liquid crystal tracer particles K. Wozniak, J. Siekmann ABSTRACT In current fluid physics investigations the liquid crystal tracer technique has gai- ned significant attention for flow visualization purposes. Thermoconvective liquid flows possess fundamental interest as far as heat and mass transfer are concerned. The fluid physicist is interested in the temperature and velocity distribution of the flow field. In this study we introduce a noval approach to measure the temperature and velocity field simultaneously using a thermochro- mical scatterer. The application of this method was strongly restricted in the past. We extend this method to an universal instrument for thermoconvective liquid flow analysis. INTRODUCTION The thermocapillary convection (or frequently denoted Marangoni-convection) of a bubble is studied experimentally using liquid crystal tracer particles. In materials processing, the interaction of gas or vapor bubbles
