Abstract
Numerical and experimental analysis of the electrode temperature rise in rotating arc circuit-breakers J. Dubois, W. Legros, P. Scarpa* Liege, Belgium ABSTRACT This paper deals with the quantification of the energy flux flowing from the electric arc to the electrodes during a current interruption process in a circuit- breaker. The proposed methodology takes advantage of combining theoretical and experimental approaches. First, a numerical thermal electrode model is developed to compute the electrode temperature rise assuming a known energy flux Then, the actual temperature rise is measured using thermocouples. Finally temperature measurements are compared to simulation results, to fit the injected energy flux value until a good agreement is obtained. KEYWORDS Circuit-breaker, electric arc, electrode temperature, thermocouples. 1. INTRODUCTION In gas circuit-breakers, the current interruption process is associated with the extinction of an arc burning between separating co
