Abstract
Thermal property estimation by comparison between experimental results and analytical or numerical solutions G. Pagliarini, S. Piva Institute di Fisica Tecnica, Facolta' di Ingegneria, Universita' di Bologna, 1-40136 Bologna, Italy ABSTRACT A method for measuring the thermal diffusivity of highly conducting metals is presented. A rod-shaped specimen is periodically heated at one end. The amplitude of the temperature oscillation at different axial positions is measured and then compared by a least squares procedure with the solution of the same problem obtained both by an approximate analytical and a numerical method. Some results are presented for pure copper and compared with the values quoted in the technical literature. INTRODUCTION The estimation of thermal properties is often achieved by performing a test in the laboratory, in conditions such that an analytical solution can be easily obtained. The value of the parameter then foll
