Abstract
Computation of unsteady gas flow with variable gas properties in a turbocharged diesel engine Y. Zhao 6c/toof o/ Mec/mmmf oW ProdwcZzon Nanyang Technological University, Nanyang ABSTRACT This study has been carried out to calculate unsteady flows with variable gas properties in a shock tube and the manifold of a turbocharged diesel engine. Because there are contact surfaces with large differences in temper- ature and composition in the engine exhaust gas flow, the second-order two- step Lax-WendrofT method (LW2) with the flux corrected transport (FCT) has been used in conjunction with a procedure for the calculation of vari- able gas properties. To speed up the computation, a simplified polynomial relationship between the internal energy and temperature was employed in the calculations. Mean values of gas constants are introduced in bound- ary calculations at various pipe ends which are based on the method of characteristics. Predicted results in the form of time-dependent press
