Abstract

PadiW Campinas, SP, Brazil ^[/7VE*9f-E^ Meca Solteira, SP, Brazil ABSTRACT This paper presents unsteady two dimensional model for the solidification process in a laminar flow in a duct subjected to supercooling. The proposed model is based upon the energy balance equations in the solid and liquid regions as well as across the solidification front with temperature dependent physical properties. A change of variables using the Landau Transform to immobilize the phase interface is used. In order to confirm the validity of the model and the numerical treatment an experimental rig was designed and instrumented to permit comparisons with the predicted results. Also comparisons with other analytical and numerical models were included and discussed.
