Abstract

On the role of under-relaxation factors in the calculation of compressible viscous flows using non-staggered grid systems M.H. Kobayashi, J.C.F. Pereira Department of Mechanical Engineering, Institute Superior Tecnico, Av. Rovisco Pais, 1096 Lisboa Codex, Portugal ABSTRACT The influence of the underrelaxation factors used in the momentum (otu) and pressure (otp) correction equations, on the computational effort required for convergence is studied in the framework of non-staggered, non-orthogonal grid systems. Numerical solutions of flows ranging from subsonic to supersonic separated flows are presented aiming to identify optimal values for these factors. It is concluded that the pressure correction equation plays a crucial role on the efficiency of the solution algorithm, being their solution closely related to the characteristics of the flow. Thus, when the hyperbolic nature of the supersonic non separated flow predominates is the stronger interaction be
