Abstract

This paper reports on the research and development of boundary element (BE) formulation for dealing with 2D problems of contact mechanics in which nonlinear effects such as elastic friction and large displacements are considered. It is based on applying a new approach to the finite strains method for the derivation of a powerful tool for elastic stress analysis of conforming and non-conforming contact problems. To this end a simplified regularisation approach is employed for the removal of strong and hyper singularities generated in the system of nonlinear boundary integral equations (BIEs). Frictionless and frictional contact interface conditions are employed. The nature of the problem necessitates two major loading iterations; one due to large displacements and the other due to contact, in order to update the stiffn
