Abstract
In the present work, the flow past a submerged half-cylinder was investigated using a numerical model for incompressible flows, based on the time-integration of the 2D Navier-Stokes equations. The free-surface is treated using a refined Volume-Qf-Fluid (VOF) method, and the internal obstacles are described using the Fractional Area-Volume Obstacle Representation (FAVOR) method. Several features of the downstream flow, such as the free surface profile, the separation points, the vortex dynamics and the velocity profiles at three sections downstream of the obstacle were compared with experimental measurements. The agreement between the measurements and the numerical soluti
