Abstract
Two-dimensional, steady, inviscid, irrotational, incompressible and gravity influ- enced free surface fluid flow in a channel over a solid step of an unknown shape has been investigated when the free surface profile is given. A combination of the boundary integral technique and the minimal height method have been devel- oped. By the application of an L—curve procedure, it is possible to predict the best regularization parameter which can give an optimal solution to the problem. 1 Introduction The problem of free surface fluid flow in a channel for which the free surface profile is given, but the shape and position of the solid bottom boundary are unknown a priori, is a field of research where we have found no previous publications.
