Abstract
On the iterative solution of symmetric 3D BEM problems M. Merkel & G. Our 3D BEM software package enables the stress analysis of three-dimensional bodies under generalized body forces like gravity, centrifugal force or arbitrary stationary thermal load. We have also implemented the BEM specific symmetry option, where symmetry planes do not have to be discretised. In this paper we focus our interest on the iterative solution of the linear system of equations arising for symmetric problems. We examine the convergence behaviour of the GMRES, the CGS and the BICGSTAB algorithm for problems which are loaded by above men- tioned phenomena. 1 Introduction A motivation for solving linear equations iteratively is the reduction in
