Abstract
This paper presents a method for the coupling of the finite element method (FEM) and the boundary element method (BEM) for 2-dimensional stress analysis problems, which allows for the modelling of body forces. The structural system of equations is based on boundary element format and the transformation of finite element equations of the FEM subregion into BEM format is limited to the interface nodes. The modelling of smooth and non-smooth FEM/BEM-interfaces and the associated difficulties are described in detail. 1 Introduction Most work on the coupling of the FEM and the BEM relies on the use of equivalent BEM-stiffness matrices, which have the disadvantage that a full inversion of the traction matrix is required/ The coupling method presented in this paper relies on the transformation of the FEM format of the interface degr
