Abstract
An object-oriented software system has been developed for the numerical modelling of physical processes. This software system is able to perform calculations using multiple coupled domains with in each domain a different equation to be solved using the most appropriate method. All examples in this paper are in the field of electrochemical engineering and are restricted to the solution of the Laplace equation with the boundary element and the finite element method. 1. Introduction In many engineering domains, physical processes are described by partial differential equations. Numerical modelling of these physical processes imply solving these PDE's with numerical methods like the boundary element and the
