Abstract
Project management for software quality - the essential elements R. Colkett PURPOSE My purpose in this paper is twofold. First, to gain greater recognition of how important it is for software quality that the fundamental concepts of project management should be understood by all those concerned Secondly, to initiate a process which will lead to a general agreement of the essential project management elements. SUMMARY No one concerned with software quality denies the importance of good project management. Many would say that the fundamental principles are just common- sense. However, experience tells us that those principles are rarely followed in practice - with disastrous results for quality. The key decision makers involved in a project need an agreed understanding of the underlying concepts; so that when we use formal methods we can apply them intelligently rather than slavishly and so that we can have a sound basis for defending our
