Collinwood Drive, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ABSTRACT In the experience of the authors, many Companies base their approach to Quality Management Systems on just one, or at best two, standard models. For example ISO 9001/1SO 9000-3 (TicklT), SE1 and TQM. Expert groups such as ISO TCI 76, DISC, ABCB discuss the detail and application of the ISO approach. Other groups and projects such as SEI, ESPRIT etc. concentrate on the SEI CMM approach. The Authors propose that little formal effort has been devoted to exploring the potential substantial advantages of developing an optimum approach by way of a combination of the models.
