Abstract

Ernst Universitaire, 38400 Saint Martin d'Heres, France ABSTRACT A numerical model is deve lopped to predict solidification delay in continuous casting. The finite elements method is used in axisymetric cases to solve the transient thermal problem. The fluid dynamics pheneomenon is calculated by analytical Blasius model, adapted to inclinated faces. The coupling algorithm between the two models evaluates at each non linear resolution step and at each time step, the solidification front position and determines the fluid speed vectors which are used to define the convective term of the heat equation.
