Abstract
Predictions of melting or dissolution times with a ID heat transfer simulation package Y. Du Terrail," Y. Fautrelle," M. Rebiere^ & O. Quemener Martin d'Heres cedex, France ABSTRACT A general package called FILFOU has been developed for the simulation of heat transfer phenomena in 1 dimension, including material melting and dissolution effects inside the domain. Based on the second order finite differences numerical method, the algorithm is applied on cylindrical or cartesian geometries, taking into account time evolutionary meshes in moving regions. An aim of this package is to simplify data's description, and a general material properties data base has been introduced considering constant or variable properties. Comparisons between the experiments on a laboratory plant, and the numerical prediction of melting and dissolution times in the case of cored wire injection into ladle in steel and cast iron metallurgy, show a good correlation in large domain of injection feed rates and
