Abstract This paper presents a systematic methodology for the synthesis of SPICE compatible circuits for PCB discontinuities modeling. Measured or numerically evaluated S-parameters are used to obtain the frequency dependent matrix characterization of the structure to be analyzed. Frequency responses are then approximated with rational functions suitable for a stable and passive realization. The equivalent circuit network is finally synthesized and incorporated in a commercial circuit solver that allows both frequency and time domain simulations. 1 Introduction The rapid increase of signal frequency and decrease of feature sizes of highspeed electronic systems, has placed a significant emphasis on the electromagnetic design of printed circuit board (PCB). To this aim full wave numerical methods are c
