Abstract
Flow-induced orientation in a center-gated disk B.N. Rao, M.C. Altan School of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK 73019, USA ABSTRACT The orientation structure induced by the steady, radially diverging flow between two parallel disks is investigated. The exact solution for the rotation of rigid, slender fibers is obtained throughout the flow from an Eulerian viewpoint. Hence, instead of following a number of fibers, spatial dependence of orientation field is characterized accurately. The orientation structure is presented in the form of maximum orientation angle and orientation tensor components. The results clearly show the skin-core orientation through the thickness which remain as the stable orientation structure at large radial distances. INTRODUCTION In recent years, radially diverging flow of short-fiber suspensions between parallel plates has attracted considerable interest. A number of molding operations cont
