Abstract
Optimal design of symmetric angle-ply laminates subject to uncertain loads and initial imperfections S. Adali, V.E. Verijenko, A. Richter Department of Mechanical Engineering, ABSTRACT An angle-ply laminated plate is optimized with the objective of minimizing the total thickness of the plate taking into account uncertainty in the input data involving the loading and the initial deflection. The laminate thickness is minimized subject to a deflection constraint under least favourable loading and initial deflection with the ply angles determined optimally. The convex modelling approach is employed to analyse the uncertain laminate. It is shown that the minimum thickness and optimal ply angles depend on the level of uncertainty. INTRODUCTION Non-probabilistic structural analysis can be employed to study uncertain data when there is no information available on statistical distributions and probability functions of relevant quantaties. Convex modelling of uncertain structures was deve
