Abstract
Finite strip analysis of local damage and stress concentration regions in composite panels J. Avrashi Material Mechanics Laboratory, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa 32000, Israel ABSTRACT The use of the finite strip approach is extended in the present article for 2-D and 3-D displacement and stress analyses of local damage and stress concentration regions in composite panels. Combination of conventional finite elements and 2-D finite strips are used to evaluate the stress concentration factors for composite finite panels containing holes and notches, while the 3-D finite strip scheme was developed for a local damage in an infinite plate problem. Numerical results obtained by the present schemes were compared with experimental results and with analytical and independent numerical results, and very good correlation was obtained. Numerical results are presented also to show the strips' behavior characteristics and accuracy.
