In order to optimize the rolling parameters the surface residual stresses have been calculated by means of a numerical model of a roll compressing a prismatic bar. Experimental measurements of the residual stresses have been carried out on the same numerically modelled bar, by using the hole drilling method and a new method. The results were compared. INTRODUCTION Mechanical and thermal treatments are today widely used to improve the fatigue mechanical characteristics of the materials. In particular, if we coKeywords
