Abstract
A quasi-static problem of thermoelasticity for an infinite solid cylinder with a ring-shaped crack, enclosed in a thin shell is considered. The stress intensity factor for various crack sizes is calculated, growth and stop of the crack when cooling the cylinder are analyzed. 1 Introduction Cylindrical parts are subjected to fairly severe thermal loading during their manufacture and use. Such loading in turn creates large transient temperature gradients and corresponding stresses which are intensified near var
