Abstract
This paper presents the results of a comparative study on thermally stratified tanks for hot storage. The two-dimensional model is based upon the conservation equations of mass, momentum and energy. The numerical solution was realized using the control volume technique due to Patankar. A simplification was done on the two-dimensional model to represent the pure conduction case. The results were compared together with available numerical and experimental results as well as with one-dimensional analytical model. Key Words: Stratification; stratified tanks; stratification model; sensible heat storage. 1 Introduction The liquid sensible heat storage systems are used in many engineering applications such as solar based applications, cold water stora
