Abstract
The first part of the paper presents a continuum model (single phase) of solidification of steel. The governing equations of continuity, momentum, enthalpy and solute are shown in the form re ;d to be implemented in existing commercial CFD codes (i.e. in the fu of transient, convection, diffusion and source terms). The second part of the paper presents a method for calculating the volume inflow required to compensate for the volume change due to solidification shrinkage of the mushy zone. A 2-D finite element model of heat transfer and stress-displacement has been developed. The pre- calculated temperature field is imposed as a thermal load to the stress model. The displacements of the mushy zone ha
