Abstract
In the paper, an improved procedure for the analysis of thermal energy storage devices based on phase change materials is presented. A Newton- Raphson type iterative scheme and the use of appropriate correction factors to the effective heat capacity are the new features that have been added to the original procedure in order to allow a strict enforcement of energy conservation both at local and global levels. 1 Introduction High temperature energy storage in phase change materials (PCM) finds many practical applications, in particular, in the field of aero-space engi- neering. For example, energy storage units based on this principle will be employed on the proposed NASA Freedom Space Stations as part of the solar receiver to be used for el
