Abstract

In the framework of the study of new processing methods for glass, we are interested to the inductive melting by cold crucible. The definition of the parameters of this technology of glass production is complex. An absorbing, emitting and isotropically scaterring medium can be modelled. The finite element method is applied to calculate the coupled radiative heat transfer and energy equations. Radiative heat transport is solved by the discrete ordinate method. The numerical model is compared with other methods in 2D and axisymmetrical configurations. The results obtained show a non negligible influence of the radiative heat transfer on the temperature field for different kinds of glasses.
