Abstract
Differential quadrature solution of uniformly loaded circular plate resting on elastic half-space M. Malik", C.W. Bert", A.R. Kukreti* of Aerospace and Mechanical *> School of Civil Engineering and Environmental ABSTRACT This paper presents a differential quadrature solution of the axisymmetric deflection problem of an isotropic plate in contact with an isotropic elastic half-space. It is believed to be the very first application of the differential quadrature method to a problem of structure-to-structure contact mechanics. INTRODUCTION The problems of contact mechanics involving the interaction of two different media are in general, numerically complex. Well known examples of the problems are fluid-structure interaction in space and oceanic structures and in nonconf ormal elastohydrodynamic contacts , and structure-structure interaction in Hertzian contacts. As opposed to the Hertzian contacts, a plate resting on an
