Abstract
A fast solver for normal and tangential contact mechanics in the half-space E.A.H. Vollebregt, J.J. Kalker, H.X. Lin Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands SUMMARY In the solution of 3d contact problems with CONTACT, the number of elements that one can use, is restricted by the calculating time. A new solver has been developed that that reduces the calculating time and the memory requirements by an order of magnitude. Many concentrated contact problems can now be solved accurately within a reasonable time. INTRODUCTION The 3d elastic frictional contact problem is difficult in the sense that it requires much calculating time for an accurate solution.
