Abstract
A consideration of the mechanism of forward flow during rolling contact by the combined FE/BE method T. Sawada, M. Furumoto Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Naka-cho, Koganei-shi, Tokyo, Japan ABSTRACT Plastic flow is shown to be generated by a shear and a deviatoric stresses analytically and numerically from the view point of the deformation theory. Not only a traction but also an unsymmetric force free from the traction with respect to the center of load are numerically shown to generate the plastic flow. INTRODUCTION Plastic flow occurs in a narrow band below the rolling surface of a disk in the forward direction of rolling while it is subject to a high load in the direction of the radius in contact. This phenomenon, forward flow, has been experimentally studied [1, 2]. Shima et al. [3] carried out the experiment in detail by using such apparatus that two disks can be driven alternately as either a driver o
