Abstract
Long-time sampling: a proposal for a new monitoring strategy G. Bertoni, A. Cecinato, R. Mabilia & R. Tappa Istituto sull'Inquinamento Atmosferico CNR, Via Solaria km 29.3, 00016-Monterotondo Scalo RM, Italy Abstract A new sampling device based upon molecular diffusion (i.e. Analyst 2) was used for the determination of semi-volatile PAH in air. This device was demonstrated to be suitable for the determination of gaseous PAH when GC-MS operated in SIM mode was used for analysis. The adsorbing material (i.e. Carbopack C) ensured good recoveries of analytes from naphtalene to chrysene, also when a single solvent extraction was run at ambient temperature. An in-progress experiment for assessing the "internal consistency" of the device is also presented. Our first experimental data confirm that the uptake rate of Analyst 2 versus PAH is constant for at least 6 months sampling time. Enriched samples corresponding to two-month exposition samples of both urban and suburban air were an
