Abstract
An integrated system for estimating and managing road transport emissions G. Romania! & C. Mangia Istituto per lo Studio dell'Inquinamento Atmosferico e I'Agrometeorologia ISIAtA, CNRLecce, Italy Abstract Transport is widely recognised to be one of the most significant sources of air pollutants, particularly in urban areas. The investigation of the impact of traffic emissions and possible abatement strategies require reliable emission data at appropriate spatial and temporal resolution. Here, an integrated system to estimate road traffic emissions is presented including in two main stages. First, the traffic characteristics are individuated by using mobility data, composition of the vehicle fleet and a transport forecasting model. Then, the emissions are calculated following the COPERT/CORINAIR methodology. Integration of this procedure with the Geographical Information Systems allows the estimation of traffic emissions that can be used both as input for dispersion models and as a
