Thome* ^Department ofCivil Engineering, University of Liverpool, United Kingdom * Centre for Coastal and Marine Studies, Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory, United Kingdom Abstract The movement of sediment through a newly dredged tidal inlet, the Barra Nova, situated in the Ria Formosa National Park, which is located on the Algarve coast of Portugal, has been studied using Q3D numerical models to simulate hydrodynamic conditions in the vicinity of the inlet. The hydrodynamic model shows that the inlet is ebb-dominant and that wave action is severely depth- limited. Examination of bed sediments show the presence of coarse material of some dso = 600 - 1200pm.
