Goethe-Universitat, Georg-Voigt-Str. 1 D-60325 Frankfurt am Main, Germany The Zentrum fur Umweltforschung (ZUF) and the Hessische Landesanstalt fur Umwelt (HLFU) have for a long time been monitoring photo-oxidants, as well as their precursors and meteorological parameters in an area with heavy traffic in Frankfurt/M., Germany. These parameters have also been measured by the ZUF in several field campaigns in a region with comparable traffic in Brazil. The data obtained were used to calculate PAN and ozone concentrations using a model including the most important gas phase reactions. A good agreement between modelled and measured data was found. Calculations were made using the chemical and meteoro
