Abstract
The BEMA Phase II Project: A Synoptic View of Major Findings Invited contribution P. Ciccioli Istituto sull'Inquinamento Atmosferico del C.N.R.-Area della Ricerca di Roma, Via Salaria km 29.300-C.P. 10 I-00016Monterotondo Stazione, Italy Introduction The BEMA (Biogenic Emissions in the Mediterranean Area) Project started in 1993 with the aim of assessing the role of biogenic volatile organic compounds in tropospheric ozone formation (Versino, 1997; Seufert, 1997). 16 European Institutes from Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain and the UK were involved in the project together with the Environment Institute of the CEC Centre in Ispra, Italy. Funding was provided by the European Commission (DG-XII). The results obtained from 1993 to 1995 in the test site of Castelporzianojtaly, have been recently summarised in a series of papers appeared in a special issue ofAtmos. Environ.
