Abstract

Urban Air Pollution: Current Knowledge and Future Research A contribution by the coordinator of subproject SATURN N. Moussiopoulos Aristotle University Thessaloniki, 540 06 Thessaloniki, Greece Urban air quality depends on both regional and local scale transport and transformation phenomena. In spite of their significance, urban scale atmospheric processes have not been sufficiently investigated so far. Substantial scientific progress is expected in the frame of the EUROTRAC-2 subproject SATURN which aims at the improvement of our ability for establishing source- receptor relationships at the urban scale. Research will focus on multiscale air pollution modelling, the improvement of methods for describing peak air pollution levels in street canyons and the development of refined air quality management systems. Introduction Air pollutants are known to have significant effects on agricultural cr
