Abstract
The Changeover from VOC to NO% Limited Ozone Production - Can it Really be Defined? Invited contribution from the coordinator of subproject LOOP Albrecht Neftel and Thomas Staffelbach Swiss Federal Research Station for Agroecology and Agriculture, Institute for Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Liebefeld, CH- 3003 Bern, Switzerland Introduction In the troposphere NO molecules react with Os to NO: and O% Subsequent photolysis of NO: will yield NO and O(*P). The O(^P) recombines with O: to give back Og In the troposphere additional Og cari only be produced if the oxidation of NO to NO: is achieved without consumption of Og. This is accomplished by peroxy radicals (HO: and RO:) which are produced during the oxidation of VOCs. They are produced during the oxidation of VOCs, and the ODD-H radicals (OH, HO: and RO:) are cycled in the VOC oxidation process. Their level determines the intensity of the ozone production.
