Abstract
An Approach for the Estimation of Seasonal Impacts of Air Pollutants in Switzerland on the Basis of an Air Quality Classification A contribution to subproject GLOREAM J Keller, D. Biirki and S. Andreani-Aksoyoglu Paul Scherrer Institut, Air Pollution Division, CH-5232 VilligenPSl, Switzerland Background and objective The estimation of air pollution impacts on ecosystems requires simulated concentration and deposition data of air pollutants for the growing season or the whole vegetation period. The impact of ozone, for instance, depends on the accumulated exposure over a threshold of 40 ppb (AOT40) (Fuhrer and Achermann, 1994). However, modelling the Swiss pollutant distribution and its dependence on emission scenarios on a day by day basis would need a substantial amount of computing time. The objective is to classify the meteorological conditions in Switzerland into a few categories with similar air pollution char
