Abstract
Ozone in the Troposphere over Europe: A Source Segregated Analysis from a Global Point of View A contribution to subproject GLOREAM Peter Zimmermann MOGUNTIA Global Modelling, Ludwigstr. JO, D-65479 Raunheim, Germany The tropospheric ozone budget over Europe is controlled by both physical and chemical fluxes. Basically ozone is produced by photochemical reaction in different ways at different altitudes of the atmosphere. In the stratospheric ozone layer, photodissociation of molecular oxygen and recombination of the O atoms with other O: molecules leads to ozone (Os) formation. In the troposphere, ozone production is initiated by NOx molecules in the course of methane oxidation by OH. Consequently locations of enhanced ozone production inside the troposphere are those being exposed to NOx emissions which can have both natural and anthropogenic sources such as: industrial foss
