Abstract
A Concept for Validation of Microscale Numerical Models for the Obstacle Layer A contribution to subproject SATURN H Panskus and K.H. Schliinzen Zentrum fur Meeres- und Klimaforschung, Universitat Hamburg, Meteorologisches Institut. Bundesstrafle 55, 20 146 Hamburg, Germany Introduction More interest has been shown in recent years in the development of concepts for model validation, but few general proposals have been published. There is a common approach given by the Model Evaluation Group of the Commission of the European Communities (MEG, 1994) and a more detailed validation strategy for high resolution mesoscale models by Schliinzen (1997) and Ebel et al. (1998). For microscale models some aspects on comparison of model results with field and laboratory data are summarised by Schatzmann et al. (1997). A general validation concept for microscale models which resolve the obstacle layer is not yet availabl
