Abstract

Introduction to the CMD Data Review Panel A contribution to subproject CMD William R Stockwell IFU, Kreuzeckbahnstr. 19, D-82467 Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany Present Address: Desert Research Institute, Reno, NV, USA Introduction The concentrations and distributions of photochemical air pollutants predicted by air quality models depend on the chemical mechanisms used in the model. However there are significant gaps in our understanding of atmospheric chemistry. Part of the problem is due to the extremely large numbers of organic compounds emitted into the atmosphere and another part of the problem is that many reactions, especially heterogeneous and multiphase reactions, remain to be investigated. Therefore much new research is required to supply the data required to build better mechanisms for air quality models. The objective of the Chemical Mechanism Development (CMD) subproject is to supply the required labo
