Abstract
Model Evaluation Using Ensemble Forecasts and the ETEX Databank Invited contribution Anne Grete Straume Joint Research Centre, Environment Institute, Ispra, Italy Introduction A Lagrangian particle dispersion model is used here to calculate the evolution of a tracer puff, released during the European Tracer Experiment (ETEX). ETEX contained two releases of inert tracers, one in October and one in November 1994 (Girardi et a/., 1997). Measurements of the released tracers were done at 168 stations over middle and northern Europe, and in the vertical by 3 aircrafts (Nodop et #/., 1997). A model evaluation study was performed, comparing the tracer dispersion forecasted by 28 participating models with the measurements from the two releases (Graziani et #/.. 1997). Data and information about ETEX is gathered in a database, and is available on Internet (http://www.ei.jrc.it/etex/). The meteorolog
