Abstract
Integration of ISO standards for infrastructure maintenance P. Chan Fo Tan, Sha Tin, New Territories, Hong Kong Email : paulchan@hk.super.net Abstract The Infrastructure & Buildings Department, East Rail Division (hereafter called I&B Department) of Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (hereafter called KCRC) of Hong Kong has recently achieved its ISO 14001 Certification in November, 1997. It has successfully integrated ISO 14001 into ISO 9001 and is the first railway in Asia certified by the ISO 14001 accreditation body in the industry. I&B Department is responsible for the infrastructure maintenance works of a busy railway which carries more than 750,000 passengers a day in Hong Kong. This paper is to address the technical parts of the management approach and the methodology used in KCRC to integrate the ISO 14001 into ISO 9001 and to share the approaches used to get through the certification assessment as well.
